Motion Design

In my motion design work, I always start with 'why.' Why sets a foundation and gives direction, leading to ideas that feel more considered and resolved. But sometimes as creatives, we just feel like making something (anything!), with no specific why behind it. In those moments, I’ve found the search for a why becomes more vice than a virtue. When I try to force a strong purpose or brief, I end up overthinking the idea before it even begins. So this time, I flipped the question. Instead of asking “why?” I asked “why not?” Rather than digging for the perfect concept, I used the first thing that caught my eye as a prompt: “DEFINE YOUR OWN PATH.” A principle from a list of mantras by one of my favourite studios, set as my laptop screensaver. That became the starting point for this project. Instead of aiming for something clean, neat, systemised or heavily thought-out, I deliberately leaned the other way. Mixed typography, textures, images, non-uniform shapes and loose layouts gave me more headspace to focus on the motion itself. It became less about creating something perfect, and more about just creating.

This project was a small reminder to myself: creativity doesn’t always need to be driven by a big idea. Letting go of that gave me the freedom to create without the pressure of a perfect concept. Because... why not? – The visuals for this film were inspired by AGIO’s “Satisfying” project.

I'm a brand-led motion designer.
